Lois was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Her mother died when Lois was eleven years old and when she was fourteen, Lois moved to Great Falls to live with her uncle, a medical doctor, and to finish high school. After graduating high school at age sixteen Lois enrolled in the Columbus School of Nursing in Great Falls as soon as she could. Upon graduation from nursing school, Lois moved to Townsend and started her nursing career in 1946 at the Townsend Hospital with Doctors Nash, McElwee, and Bayliss.
Lois was married to Albert Olsen in December of 1946. In 1951 they and their two children, Gary and Cathy moved to Harrison where Al and Lois had purchased the Save More Market grocery store, which they operated until 1971. Lois continued her nursing career at the Ennis Hospital with Doctors Lossee, Idles, and Wilkens.
She retired from the Ennis Hospital in 1992, but still worked the satellite clinic in Harrison one day a week until 2002. For over fifty years Lois was the local medical resource for Harrison, rendering first aid to accident victims, removing fishing flies from unlucky fishermans' ears, administering asthma shots, allergy shots, and delivering medicines to the locals, be it for themselves or their livestock.
Lois is survived by her son, Gary Olsen (Judy) of Townsend, and daughter, Cathy McGregor (Scott) of Roberts, five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Her husband of 43 years, Albert died in February of 1990.
Honoring Lois's request that no formal funeral services were to be held, her remains have been cremated and the family will have graveside services at a later date. Memorials may be made to any organization of the donors choice.
