Townsend grapplers take third at Southern Divisional Tournament
The Broadwater Wrestling team traveled to Whitehall this past weekend and came away with third place in the Southern Divisional Tournament qualifying nine athletes for the State Tourney in Billings this next weekend. At 98 pounds, Broadwater qualified Jade Rauser and Keagan Larson. Jade placed first by pinning Keagan in the finals. At 105, Val Rauser joined his brother as a Divisional Champion by pinning Crossland of Cascade-Simms. In the 112 bracket, Zack Spritzer fell in a hard fought bout with Rogers of Cascade-Simms and came away with second place. Also at 112, Frank Potter came away with fourth place honors and a chance to compete in Billings. The 119 pound bracket also saw 2 Townsend wrestlers in the top four. Tony Michaelson and Joel Harvey placed third and fourth respectively. Brit Thompson came away with and exciting 6-5 win over Enochs of Cascade-Simms to earn his first Divisional title.
Bulldogs suffer two losses
Friday February, 1st the Townsend Boys Basketball team played host to Fort Benton. Both teams came out jabbing as the score heading into the second quarter was all knotted up at 13. Ft. Benton gained a slight advantage by halftime leading the Dogs 34 to 22. The Bulldogs rallied in the third quarter bringing the score to within 4 but were unable to muster a win in this hard fought match. Final Score Ft. Benton 52 Townsend 46.

The Dogs headed south to face off against Three Forks Saturday February 2nd. The Bulldogs ended the first quarter with a 1 point lead thanks in part to a pair of 3’s from the perimeter by Ahern. The Dogs were unable to sustain the lead heading into halftime

Vale Rauser, another 9th grade student has a record of 36-1 and is also ranked number one in the state. “Val is unbelievably physical and tenacious and aggressive on the mat. Val has wrestled up to 112 much of the year and has dominated all of the top wrestlers in that weight,” explained Coach O’Dell, as he went on to say, “His record against quality opponents has proven him to be one of the elite light weights in the state.”
Zack Spritzer, a 9th grader, has a record of 34-8 and is ranked fifth in the state. Coach O’Dell says, “Zack, pound for pound, is one of the toughest wrestlers ever out of Broadwater. He is very physical and difficult to score on.This weekend I expect him to break out and place high at state.”
Frank Potter is another Freshman, and has a record of 9-8. “Frank has come alive late in the season and will represent the Dawgs well on the mat,” Coach O’Dell said.
At 160, Justin O’Myer kept improving weekly and earned a spot in the state tourney by placing fourth.
Jordan Nelson, Kaleb Larson, Jager Warner, Dana Sjostrom, Alex Roberts, Devin Schipman, Mike Huth, and Jake Allen also competed for the Dawgs and helped them bring home the third place trophy but failed to qualify for the state tournament.
The Bulldog wrestlers will begin competition Friday morning at 10 am in Billings.
Jade Rauser, a 9th grade student has a record of 28-0 and is ranked first in state. Coach John O’Dell commented, “Jade is one of the most explosive wrestlers I have ever coached or have seen. It will be exciting to see him pursue his first state title. Jade has not been taken down this season.”
Keagan Larson is a 10th grade student with a record of 19-9. Coach O’Dell stated, “Keagan is getting better every time he steps on the mat and has a legitimate shot at earning All-State honors this weekend.”
Tony Michaelson is a Senior and has a record of 20-12. Coach John O’Dell remarked, “ Tony’s drive and heart have turned him into a formidable opponent on the mat.”
Joel Harvey, a Ninth grade student’s record is 25-14. “Joel is a dangerous wrestler that can score from any position and could make big things happen in Billings this weekend if he is aggressive,” the coach stated.
Britt Thompson, a 9th grade student with a record of 33-2, ranked #2 in the state. Coach O’Dell quoted, “Britt is a very fluid technical wrestler that uses his abilities to their max. Britt has picked off countless quality opponents and is poised well for a title run.”
Justin O’Myer, an 11th grade student has a record of 9-7. Coach O’Dell said, “Justin is a late season transfer who has worked hard to catch up and has done a great job. It is exciting to have the opportunity to coach him for another week.”

41 to 29 Three forks. Three forks poured it on in third offensively scoring 29 points while shutting down the Dogs defensively as well in the 4th quarter by holding them to a mere 4 points. Final Score Three Forks 81 Townsend 45.
