Track teams jump out to good start on season

The Bulldog Varsity Track team traveled to Whitehall on Saturday April 5th for the first meet of the season.
The dogs put on a good showing for the first meet. Standing out was Delaware Hansen’s sweep of the Jumping events but there was a strong showing in many events.
Individual Highlights:
Shot Put 1st 44’6” -Kyland Santos; 1600M 4th Place; 400M Cody Harris 3rd place 53.7;800M Ben Robertson 2nd, Long Jump - Delaware Hanson 1st 15’3”; Long Jump - Lynsie Williams 3rd 13’7”; 100M Kelsey Wicken ties for first with 13.89; Shot Put Stephanie Hansen 3rd 28’6”; Triple Jump - Delaware Hansen 1st 31’7”; Triple jump Lynsie Williams 3rd 30’10”; Javelen Stephanie Hansen 2nd 89’10”; High Jump Delaware Hansen 1st 5’; 1600M Jordan Audet 1st 5:52; 800M 2nd - Jordan Audet 5:52
Coach Rauh was impressed with the quality of performance for the first time out. He also said in reference to her sweeping the jumping events “if Delaware can stay healthy she should have a great year”
Townsend then headed to Bozeman on Sat. April 12th. As a team, Townsend Boys scored 34 clinching 7th place for the tournament. The dogs were very competitive in all of the events.

The Lady Dogs took home 1st place for the team score with a score of 100. Carry Myers made a strong showing in grabbing 1st in the 100M & 400M as well as second in the 200. There were several other top notch showings.

Coach Rauh had this to say after the event, “I was extremely pleased with the way we competed on Saturday. We Showed a lot of mental toughness and did a great job finishing the meet.”

Lady Dogs serve up victories

he Townsend Tennis team was busy last week. On Tuesday, the squad traveled to Choteau to dual Choteau as well as Conrad. The varsity defeated Choteau by a score of 6-0 sweeping all of the contested matches.
Kyndra Thompson played well and controlled Choteau’s top singles player. Another Townsend player that looked solid was Micah Weidman at the #3 spot. She blew her opponent out 8-0. The JV was not to be outdone and blew out Choteau as well 6-0.
In the second dual the varsity defeated Conrad 5-1 and the JV again mirrored the varsity results with a 5-1 shellacking.
The Townsend doubles made a strong showing in the dual by opening up with some good wins against strong opponents. At the #1 spot, Lindsey Little and Becky Moudree dominated Schlepp/Pearson 8-3. Jessica Saggisor and Logan Weidman again proved they are a formidable opponent by winning a gutsy tie breaker 8-7 (7-2)
“This season Townsend has played 5 tiebreakers and has won all of them. That is a testament to our physical and mental toughness on the whole,” said coach John O’Dell.
On Friday the Bulldogs traveled to Fairfield and played a senior laden team with plenty of experience. The Bulldogs came out on top 5-1. The performance of the day went to Gaelyn Domino when she dominated a senior who has played in the state tourney 8-0.
On Saturday the team played in an 8 team tourney in Choteau and came away with the team title as well as some individual accolades. In the #1 bracket Kyndra Thompson had a great tournament and placed 2nd. In the #2 bracket Micah Weidman placed fifth. In the top doubles bracket Lindsey Little and Becky Moudree blew out their competition and placed first, enroute to their first title they defeated two teams that placed at state last year. In the #2 doubles bracket Logan Weidman and Delta Sjostrom also dominated their bracket and placed first. At #4 singles Deidra Sjostrom qualified to play for fifth but the match was called due to lack of daylight.
This next week the team travels to Hardin to play in an Eastern A tournament that will test the team against some of the stronger hitters from the East.

Townsend Junior High tracksters open season at Manhattan Christian

Townsend’s Junior High track team held their first meet at Manhattan Christian High School on April 10th. Townsend has fielded forty six seventh and eight grade athletes for track this year.

Booster Club hosts 3 on 3 tourney

The Townsend Booster Club hosted a 3 on 3 basketball tournament on April 5th. There were 49 teams in grades 5-8 participating. The Bulldogs were well represented with 8 teams playing in the tournament.
A total of 118 games were played throughout the day. The 8 champion teams are as follows;
5th Girls - Roundup defeating Orange Crush
5th Boys - Helena Rim Rafters defeating Helena Bulldogs (Red)
6th Girls - Helena Griz defeating Helena Chubby’s
6th Boys - Livingston Cougars defeating Capital Crush
* 7th Girls - Hoopsters Quad Threat defeating Dillon
7th Boys - Manhattan Tigers defeating Livingston
8th Girls - Bozeman Lil’ Hawks defeating hoopsters
* 8th Boys - Townsend Butterflies defeating White Sulpher Hornets
Twenty seven high school students kept score, clock and refereed the games. The students enthusiastically volunteered their time and energy (for a tshirt & lunch). These students and atheletes represented our school and our community with respect and pride. The Booster Club really appreciates all of the time and help these students put into the tournament. A huge thanks to the ladies who ran the concessions and everyone who helped clean up after the tournament.
