Golf teams drive into season strong

April 11th and 12th the Townsend Golf team played in the Missoula Loyola Invitational.
The Townsend Girls got the season off to a great start landing a Second place team win with a combined total of 796.
Girls Individual Scoring:
Emily Watson 95,94 - 6th place; Alexa Audet 97,97 - 9th place; Jane’a Ehlke 92,109 - 10th place; Collette Chorney - 105,107.
The Boys had a solid showing securing 10th place in the tourney with a combined team score of 755.
Boys Individual Scoring:
Mick Moos 82,93 - 175; Blake Rauser 95,93 - 185; Chris Ahern 96,93 - 186; Tate Pool 103,100 - 203.
Townsend golf team hit the greens in the Gardiner Invitational on Thursday, April 17th at the Livingston Country Club.
Townsend Girls came in a close second to Three Forks. Townsend Girls scoring 380 to Three forks 365.
Senior Emily Watson, shooting an 86 brought home first place in the indivual competition.
Girls Individual Scores:
Emily Watson 86 (1st); Alexa Audet 95 (5th); Collett Chorney 99, Jane’a Ehkle 100; Leigh West 103.
The Townsend Boys team came in 7th place shooting 387 overall.
Boys Individual Scores:
Mick Moos 88; Blake Rauser 93; Chris Ahern 102; Tate Poole 104; Jim Woodring 108.
The Townsend Meet on Tuesday was canceled due to snow. The next high school golf activities will be held on Monday April 28th when Townsend heads south to face Manhattan Christian.

Townsend tops Hardin tennis tourney

Saturday, April 19th the Townsend Girls Tennis Team were away at Hardin showing some great competitive spirit. Townsend came out on top toppling Hardin in rounds one and two and Glendive in rounds three and four.

The Varsity girls are off to an excellent start for the season, Varsity is 12-0 in duals, Individual win-loss records are at a wopping 90-26 thats 71% victories.

The JV Girls are also doing a phenomenal job out there, Also undefeated in duals (6-0) Their individual Win-loss record is 64-35 winning nearly half of all their matches.

Coach O’Dell’s Comments on the team so far: “I am very pleased with our entire team at this point of the season. Our entire Varsity is hitting and serving at a tremendous pace. We have been tested several times and have proven ourselves to be a mentally tough, competitive team. The most important stat of the year is the fact we’ve had seven matches in tie breakers and have won all of them, The JV is developing and many of our players are already playing at the Varsity level. In the next few years these players will do a tremendous job when they arrive at the Varsity level”
The girls will be playing Whitehall at home on Tuesday, April 22 at 2:00P.M., Boulder at home on Thursday, April 24th at 2:00 P.M., Chinook and Wolfpoint Away on Friday, April 25th and capping the week off on Saturday April 26th with the Havre Tournament in Havre.

Jr. High holds Hoops for Heart fundraiser event

The Townsend Junior High School participated in a fundraiser for the American Heart Association on Friday, March 28th.
The 2nd annual Hoops for Heart was enjoyed by all (180 Students). We had stations with various basketball activities; 3 on 3, 5 on 5, trivia, lay ups, free throws and hot shot shooting. All 12 teams were sporting their brightly decorated t-shirts.
The money raised by the students will go to the American Heart Association to help aid research for Lung Cancer, Heart disease and Diabetes. The Townsend students raised a total of $1665.50. Chris Loret de Moya was the top money maker with $231.00. Chris’s name will be entered in a drawing for a Disneyland vacation.
The Townsend Middle School staff and administration would like to thank the community for supporting our Hoops For Heart fundraiser and for helping promote a healthy lifestyle to our students.

Townsend tracksters score high at Seeley-Swan meet

The Townsend Track Team participated in the Seeley-Swan Invitational Track meet on Saturday, April 19th. The Townsend Girls were very competitive scoring 59 team points, behind only Hamilton who scored 70.
Girls team - Carrie Myers led the pack in the 400 meter placing first coming in at 65.12. She also placed second in the 100 meter with a 13.10. Jordan Audet placed 4th in the 1600 meter with a time of 5:44.7. Kelsey Wickens placed 5th in the 400 Meter with a time of 66.78. Townsend Girls relay team grabbed second in the 400 meter.
Delaware Hansen is proving to be a force to be reconed with in all jumping events as again this week she placed high in nearly all jumping events. Tying for 3rd in the high jump 4’10”, 2nd in long jump 14’8”, 4th in triple jump 31’6”. Lynsie Williams is making her presence known as well grabbing 4th in the long jump 4’10”, and 3rd in the triple jump with 31’7”.
Boys team - The Dogs came in 10th place at the meet for the team tally.
Cody Harris placed 3rd in the 400 meter with a time of 52.93, Kyland Santos again placing high in the shot put threw for fourth place with a 45’ throw. As well a 3rd place in the Javelin with a 156’6” toss.
Coach Travis Rauh said “It was another solid performance. The girls left the meet (with a high) place and the boys had some of their best marks of the year.”
Deleware Hanson leaps for a good mark.
