Elaine K. Vogel
Elaine K. Vogel passed away May 8, 2008 awaiting a lung transplant at the University of Washington hospital in Seattle, Wash. A memorial celebrating Elaine’s life will be held on May 14, 2008 in Townsend, Montana at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran church at 11 o’clock. Funeral services will be held in Havre, Montana on Friday, May 16th at 11o’clock at Messiah Lutheran Church with internment at Highland Cemetery. Memorials in Elaine’s memory can be made to the Scleroderma Foundation, 300 Rosewood Drive, Suite 105, Danvers, MA 01923 or one’s choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Holland and Bonine Funeral Home.
Elaine was born October 1, 1945 in Williston, ND to Martin and Wanda (Storm) Knudsvig. Elaine moved with her family to Havre, Montana in 1955. She attended schools in Havre, was confirmed at the First Lutheran church and graduated from Havre High in 1964. While attending Northern Montana College, she worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Rector. During this time, Elaine met Randolph Vogel of Kremlin. They were married on October 1, 1966 and to this union were born three children. In 1967 the Vogel’s moved to Townsend, Montana.
Elaine had a very caring heart and enjoyed being around and helping people. Broadwater County Hospital employed her as a nurse’s aide. After her daughter was born, Elaine began a daycare and balloon business, Elaine’s Flyin’ Balloons, so she could stay at home and raise her family. In doing so, she raised many local children as well. In 1994, she began working at Hennessy’s, which later became Dillard’s, in Helena. She retired in December 2006 due to her diagnosis of Scleroderma. In October 2007, Elaine and Randy moved to Seattle to be closer to the University of Washington hospital and await a lung transplant.
Elaine was very active in her church. She loved to help with making lefhse each year. She participated in Extension Homemakers. Elaine enjoyed socializing and creating unique items for her family. Her favorite sport was bowling. She attended several state bowling competitions. She enjoyed sewing and made several outfits for her children. Elaine was a bargain shopper! She could spot a good deal from 50 feet! Elaine enjoyed boating, camping and traveling with her family. The family made it to destinations such as Disneyland, Devil’s Tower, the Black Hills and a very special trip with her daughter, Ryndee, to New York City!
She was preceded in death by her father, Martin Knudsvig. Her husband, Randall, of 41 years, survives Elaine. Her children Max and daughter-in-law Terra of Havre, Rodney and daughter-in-law Theresa of Durango, Colo., and daughter Ryndee and son-in-law Pete of Billings; Her grandchildren, the joys of her life, Alara and Carsyn Vogel (Max and Terra), CaraLenor and Elise Vogel (Rodney and Theresa) and Peter J. and Jace Hamilton (Ryndee and Pete). Her mother, Wanda Knudsvig and Sisters, Marlys (Gene) of Bozeman, and Michelle (Cliff) of West Point, Miss.; Brothers Bob (Margo) and Bill (Laura) of Seattle, Wash., and Leroy (Rhonda) of Whitefish, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Robert Donald Schenk
Robert Donald Schenk, 84, of Townsend died of natural causes Sunday at his home. His funeral is Friday at 2 p.m. at the Townsend United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Betty, of 63 years, 5 children, Dennis (Carol) of Townsend, David (Nancy) of Ennis, Judy (Earl) Sheldon of Vaughn, Janice Schenk of Helena, and Steve (Kathy) Schenk of Helena, 10 grandchildren Ron (Candace), Richard (Michelle), Kristy, Brian, Greg Schenk, Jeannette (Michael) Williams, Cindy (Shannon) Holmes, Tom (Mikell) Erving, Jeremy (Deanne) Erving, and Shane (Crystal) Erving, 10 great grandchildren, sister Viola Gilmore and cousin Donald Schenk and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bob was born March 16, 1924 in Sanborn, Minn. to Anton and Sophia Schenk. He attended country school in Sanborn. He married Elizabeth (Betty) Hofmann on April 4, 1945. Together they farmed until they moved to Montana with their five young children. They ranched in Hall, Three Forks, and Whitehall and made many lasting friendships.
While in Whitehall, they stopped ranching due to Bob’s health and moved into town. He worked for a fuel company and for Jefferson County maintaining roads until his retirement.
Throughout the years, they were involved in bowling, square dancing, playing cards, and socializing with their many friends.
After retirement, they moved to Townsend and enjoyed traveling, fishing and boating with family and friends. Bob enjoyed starting his day with coffee at the Commercial with his buddies. Everyone who knew Bob is going to miss his quick wit, humor, and teasing manner, especially his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, father and mother-in-law, three brothers, two sisters and a close cousin, and grandson, Curt Williams.

Edwin Eugene Hall
Edwin Eugene Hall, 77, of Townsend, passed away Thursday, May 1, 2008 at the VA Medical Center, Ft. Harrison.
Edwin was born March 21, 1931 to George and Marie Hall in Fresno, CA. Edwin served our country honorably in the United States Coast Guard from 1949 to 1952 during the Korean War and then served with the United States Marines from 1954 to 1955. He was a fine jewelry maker and carver, and loved hunting and fishing in the great outdoors and sport shooting. Edwin was a proud member of the VFW, NRA, and the Disabled American Veterans.
Edwin is survived by his son Edwin M. Hall of Anchorage, Alaska and a granddaughter Miranda Lee Hall. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Cremation has taken place and family burial will take place at a later date in the family plot in Alaska. Memorials in Edwin’s name are suggested to the Disabled American Veterans, 3633 Veterans Dr., Ft. Harrison, MT 59636.
